It’s all about Strengthening Relationships

As a teacher, leader and behaviour management expert, Victoria has been working with the most difficult behaviour in the most challenging education settings from the North East of England to Inner City London. Victoria has been a qualified teacher since 1996.

Before studying for her Degree in Education, Victoria dove straight into the entrepreneurial world of self employment, setting up her own Outdoor Adventure Education business working with groups of predominantly boys from young offender’s establishments. She was tasked with building their resilience, self-esteem and teamwork skills and chose the middle of the North York Moors on a bike, canoe or half way up a mountain as the perfect environment to put them outside their comfort zone.

She says “As I was similar age to these kids, more often than not, I fell in love with sharing big ambitions and being passionate about believing that anything is possible. Nature has a way of breaking down barriers and bringing people together in a common goal and changing and managing  behaviours in a positive way”.

After qualifying as a teacher and gaining a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Victoria did not at first pursue a career in teaching, and instead developed a wide and varied portfolio career.

She worked as a graduate trainee as a Commercial Manager with Blue chip retailer Marks & Spencer PLC, giving her a solid grounding in leadership and management training techniques.

Victoria then set up a second business, whilst supply teaching in some challenging environments and already witnessing the need for change towards behaviour management of students and the need for inclusivity for all.

Her business grew to three outdoor adventure centres, employing over 100 staff, where she developed and delivered leadership and team building programmes for a wide range of clients from schools to large corporate companies including Sony, Serco, Yorkshire Tea and Newcastle City Council. She was asked by the Minister for Sport to consult at the London 2012 Olympics on their legacy programme in how to encourage and support disaffected and marginalised groups to access the outdoors in a positive way. Looking back, Victoria feels that having a wide and enriched career journey has given her a broader lens than most on the view of equipping our youngsters in being career and world ready.

Victoria returned full time to education and recently she has been an Assistant Head teacher in schools in the North East of England in deprived coastal and rural schools and schools in inner city settings.

Currently she is a senior pastoral leader at a large multi-cultural school in the East end of London.

Victoria’s approach is one of compassion, brought to you with honesty and passion, underpinned with real life “up to the minute” expertise and knowledge in behaviour management and inclusivity.

Victoria’s specialism in behaviour has come about after being particularly inspired by relational restorative practice, and her being sick and tired of hearing her colleagues bellowing at kids down corridors.

Whilst teaching Victoria has created many programmes to improve boy’s achievements, preventing post-16 disillusioned girls falling into stereotypical unambitious career choices, and has developed robust support around successful transition from primary to secondary. Victoria has developed a number of successful Inclusion Programmes in mainstream settings with a focus on SEMH.

Her latest triumph which has led her to be so passionate about wanting to share this with everyone, is her seismic success in improving behaviour starting with one cohort of children in her current school, with results that are so off the scale her HT thinks she is "Fiddling the data". This has been done in one term and everything has changed.

Victoria is very driven and passionate about the importance of positive relationship building amongst both the adults and children, and is strong believer in trauma informed, relational and restorative practice and that NOW is the time that every mainstream school was truly inclusive.
