My Approach
A better learning future that is truly inclusive
starts here…

We are at a great vantage point from which to change behaviour by evoking a stronger culture of kindness and ‘being bothered’. Within our schools this needs to be at the heart of everything we do; not rules, or new strategies or zero tolerances. Everything must start with a culture driven by kindness and genuine care and respect for everyone in the establishment, led by adults committed to inclusion. All the adults, not just the teachers.

Now is the time for action …

To change the way we view behaviour and become truly inclusive.
It is time to harness relationships and the rest will follow. We need to amplify this through modelling the best adult behaviour that encourages praise and positivity so it becomes contagious. This is about everyone in the organisation adopting a relational response. We’re out with the punitive approach, because it simply does NOT work, and we’re IN with individuals being at the heart of everything we do.

I am passionate and compassionate: you and I together will bring meaning to a strategy and a shift in culture, forming a part of something bigger that will bring a renewed love of learning to all.

As leaders, it's time to take your colleagues with you on this journey of inclusion for all.
We need to provide a spark to ignite that learning flame for all – INCLUSIVITY!
Be plucky! Your team need to know you trust them. Don’t dwell on system failures, but harness a solution that suits you and your school. Simple effective strategies can precipitate positive rapid change, not lengthy behaviour policies.

Welcoming students sets a positive tone and promotes a sense of belonging while helping children feel invested in their own learning. Leaders need to model this culture of kindness so the ripple effect of inclusion and mutual respect can begin. If staff are well in themselves and act with love and kindness, this will cascade out to their colleagues. In turn the students, their families and the school community will see this ground-breaking positive change.
I believe people like to learn together rather than be lectured at. I have a tried and tested model that works by doing just that. I think ethics are important, and I also think that to say you don't have an opinion is disingenuous. I strongly believe that some methods of dealing with poor behaviour in some schools in the 21st century are simply wrong, and now is the time to move on.

Simply stick to the mantra “Praise the behaviour you want to encourage by showing emotional consistency”. You will see inclusion blossom and challenging behaviours change swiftly.

Recognition is a guaranteed relationship builder, and strong relational practice with a practical people-centred approach is what I do. I’m not big on rewards for rewards sake. This kind of system is also flawed in the same way as those who cannot see beyond a sanction driven approach, as it is littered with many confounding factors that limit the value of the reward. Children must see a value to a reward that has been genuinely earned by putting in the required effort.

I will start with a thorough discovery of your challenges. Then we can begin to radically improve the behaviour in your school by establishing simple but clear boundaries for the children, and for us as the adults to respond skilfully. I will help you create a plan that suits your setting with a strong relational focus to take your school to the next level which will allow for a better learning future that is truly inclusive for all.
